09:14 am - Do you wanna make tea at the BBC? And suddenly, just in the vein of work-related angst, opportunities have arisen on 3 fronts, all at once. I can't talk about any of them yet, although one is a matter of public record.
This could play out very interestingly, or I could be totally screwed. I'll share more when I can.
In a more mundane line of thought, next week I will finally get a look at the inside of the last area steel mill, something of an early birthday gift. One can only hope it won't rain.

Comments:
Did you really just lurrvvve your job about a year ago? One that you could just take the day off and go explore outdoors instead of working?
I still can.
I'm turning in enough hours that it's unlikely I will get any crap for my work habits, either.
The extra vector is a lot of what I do for work is actually work with an open source project where I don't have a boss, and there's no management framework around it. There are a lot of wild cards. Wild cards can be anything, but it looks like maybe the wild cards are going to turn into particular things. It's hard to say now whether those are good or bad things. They're just... things.

Well, I can tell you the steel mill was still there when we drove by it two nights ago, so no worries on that account ;)
It looks interesting from the outside, I bet it's fascinating actually inside some of the buildings. Have a good time, even if you can't take pictures.

OK, so "last area steel mill" could mean several things.
I'm assuming you mean ET, because it's the only integrated* mill in Pittsburgh, but Allegheny Ludlum's plants in Brackenridge and Latrobe are still running.
And Irvin Works is technically a "steel mill," too. So is Wheeling-Pitt in Allenport (for a little while longer), and AL in Chartiers Twp. and Washington.
(* --- for the benefit of everyone else, "integrated" means they go from raw material to finished steel ... Irvin Works and Allenport, for instance, get steel made elsewhere, and roll it into products)
ET and Irvin, as it happens.
And yeah, not much longer for Allenport. |
